SCOTTS VALLEY

This small, 330 sq. ft. courtyard was inspired by the gardens that the homeowner had admired on her many trips to Mexico. It is an elaborate stage for the work of the craftsmen whose attention to detail is on display throughout. The walls and custom fountain were constructed as one piece, and the fountain bowls were hand-formed in place. The gate, designed and built by a local artisan, is constructed of reclaimed wood and hand-forged hardware. Bamboo, climbing roses and bougainvillea provide privacy and color without taking up too much horizontal space. Large succulents add sculptural drama.

This garden received a Sunset Western Garden Design Award in 2001 and was featured in The Best of Sunset in August 2003.
